Ashendon is a parish in the diocese of Oxford, and first division of the 3 Hundreds of Ashendon, 7½ miles west of Aylesbury, and 2 miles north-east of Chilton. The church, an ancient structure, consisting of nave, chancel, aisle and tower, contains a tomb with figure of one of the Knight Templars, rudely ornamented with foliage, said to be that of Sir John Bugden, of Policott. The living is a perpetual curacy in the gift of Christ church, Oxford, of the value of £70 per annum; the present incumbent is the Rev. Thomas Woodward Gardner, B.A., who resides at Dorton. The population, in 1841, was 312; acreage, about 2,000.
